FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE

Net Worth Tracker

The wealth leaderboard is offline while it is rebuilt on parsed OGE Form 278e filings. Capitol Trace publishes no net-worth estimate it cannot trace to one.

Personal Financial Disclosures

Why this page is empty

This page used to rank a hundred members of Congress by estimated net worth, each with a dollar figure, a set of named holdings and a filing year, all of it presented as OGE Form 278e disclosure data.

It was not disclosure data. The figures were never traced to a filing, and the list gave itself away: it attributed filings to members in years they no longer held office, and in one case to a member who had been dead for three years. Publishing invented wealth under a federal form's name is not a rounding error and it does not get to sit behind a disclaimer. The whole dataset has been deleted.

What replaces it is a real ingest: Capitol Trace parses the filings themselves into member_financial_disclosures, and this page will rank whatever that table holds โ€” nothing sooner, nothing else. Until the first filings land, there is no ranking here, no partial ranking, and no estimate standing in for one. A member dossier shows a range only where a parsed filing exists for that member, and says so plainly where one does not.

The filings are public in the meantime, and they are the same documents this page will be built from. They are searchable at efdsearch.senate.gov for the Senate and disclosures-clerk.house.gov for the House.

What members must file

Under the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, every member of Congress files an annual financial disclosure on OGE Form 278e, covering assets, income, transactions, liabilities and outside positions.

Asset brackets

Exact values are never disclosed. Assets are reported inside these bands, which is why any single net-worth number is an interpretation of a range rather than a fact read off a form:

  • $1Kโ€“$15K
  • $15Kโ€“$50K
  • $50Kโ€“$100K
  • $100Kโ€“$250K
  • $250Kโ€“$500K
  • $500Kโ€“$1M
  • $1Mโ€“$5M
  • $5Mโ€“$25M
  • $25Mโ€“$50M
  • $50M+

What the form does not catch

  • Blind trusts โ€” assets can be held out of public view
  • Spousal assets โ€” reported separately, with less detail
  • Primary residence โ€” excluded from the disclosure requirement entirely
  • Wide ranges โ€” the top bracket has no upper bound at all
  • Late filings โ€” the penalty is a $200 fee
